The Soundtrack of Your Life: What’s Your Song Right Now?

Recently I was in a meeting where we went off on a tangent—one of those conversations that wasn’t planned but ended up being the most memorable part of the discussion.

Someone asked, “If you had to pick a song that represents where you are in life right now, what would it be?”

At first, it seemed like a fun, lighthearted question. But as people started sharing, something deeper emerged. It wasn’t just about music—it was about how we’re feeling.

And right now? People are feeling anxious. Overwhelmed. Stretched thin.

In fact, workplace stress is at an all-time high, with 60% of employees reporting increased daily anxiety—across all industries, at every level. It’s not just a “busy season.” It’s a new reality.

I took the question further and started thinking, “What if you also picked a song that represents your aspirational life?” The version of you that feels aligned, fulfilled, and at peace.

My Life’s Soundtrack

If I had to pick a song for where I am right now, it would be “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey (I know, a little cheesy). It represents hope in the face of uncertainty, the belief that even when you don’t see the whole path, you keep moving forward.

But my aspirational song? That would be “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong—because my goal is to appreciate, even more, all the amazing things I have in my life. To stop rushing to the next thing and instead take in the beauty that’s right in front of me.

What’s Your Song?

So now, I challenge you:

  • What’s the song that represents your life today? The one that sums up how you’re feeling in this moment?

  • What’s the song that represents the life you want to live? Your aspirational song—the one that reflects the energy, mindset, and joy you want to create.

  • And most importantly… how do you get from one to the other? What changes need to happen? What small shifts—whether in mindset, habits, or perspective—can help you start embodying that aspirational song right now?

Your Next Verse Starts Now

This isn’t about wishing life were different. It’s about recognizing that, like any great song, our lives have different verses, and we have the power to shape what comes next.

I would love to hear about what songs you choose and help you move from one song to the other. I look forward to hearing about your playlist!
